UW dorms

Cars full of freshmen, parents and belongings line up at the University of Wyoming dorms during move-in day for the fall semester on Aug. 29, 2014, in Laramie.

A woman was allegedly sexually assaulted in a University of Wyoming residence hall early Thursday morning, according to an alert sent to campus.

The alert is sparse on details. It states only that a “male perpetrator” who was known to the victim allegedly sexually assaulted her.

UW spokesman Chad Baldwin said there was little he could publicly release about the incident, which is still under investigation. He said the alleged assault occurred “early” Thursday morning and that it was reported hours later.

He said he could not disclose who made the report to UW police, which is investigating.

Wednesday was the first day of classes for UW.

In the alert, the university wrote that “advocacy and medical support options were provided to the victim.”

There were 18 reports of sexual assault last year, according to university data. The last time the university sent one of these alerts — which are required under federal law — was in March. That assault also occurred in a UW dorm.
