A tornado touched down north of Laramie on Wednesday evening, the National Weather Service reported.
Photos posted by the weather service’s Cheyenne office showed a tornado moving over the prairie north of town.
Residents were advised to immediately take shelter.
There was no immediate word on damage or injuries.
Photographs of the tornado began appearing on social media at about 5:45 p.m. The weather service said the twister was still on the ground at 6:29 p.m. near Baldy Peak, 12 miles northeast of town. It was moving east at 15 mph.
A tornado warning was in effect for Albany County until 7 p.m.
There was severe weather across Wyoming on Wednesday evening. A thunderstorm warning was in effect for Hot Springs and Washakie counties and tornadoes were possible, according to the weather service’s Riverton office.
