Two people died Sunday when two vehicles collided head-on south of Casper, the Wyoming Highway Patrol reported.

Brianna Coleman, 34, and Ricci Patterson, 40 died at the scene of the crash, which occurred at 2:25 p.m. on Wyoming Highway 487 between Casper and Medicine Bow.

The crash happened when a 2015 Dodge Ram, which was heading north, crossed into the southbound lane and struck a 2012 Jeep Patriot, which was headed in the other direction.

The Jeep came to a rest off the highway. The pickup, which was hauling a box trailer, continued north and then rolled, coming to rest on its roof in the northbound lane, where it caught fire.

Witnesses told authorities that pickup had been speeding and passing unsafely prior to the crash, according to a Wyoming Highway Patrol report.
