PROVO, Utah (AP) — A Wyoming native has died in a horse-riding accident in Utah, police said Thursday.

Shauna Ann Martin, 35, was riding at a ranch near Payson when she either fell or was bucked off Wednesday evening, the Daily Herald reported.

Martin struck her head on a pole, suffering a serious head injury, said Utah County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Spencer Cannon. A ranch hand working nearby heard Martin scream and called emergency crews.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

“She really had no chance of surviving her injuries,” Cannon said. “There was some initial effort, but once the responders got on scene, it was pretty clear that she was deceased.”

Martin was originally from Evanston but had recently moved to Utah County. The ranch specializes in the raising and breeding of horses and authorities believe she had experience riding.
