With the latest iteration of Trumpcare, the Graham-Cassidy bill, looming, it is an important time to listen to the specialists in the field of medicine. Not only are doctors speaking out against it, insurance companies are now stepping up to voice their concerns as well. Recently, Blue Cross Blue Shield and America’s Health Insurance Plans have spoken out against the impending bill because of the immense amounts of danger it holds for people with pre-existing conditions. Not only would this iteration make it possible for companies to turn people down if they have a pre-existing condition, it also allows them to raise rates on people who possess insurance and are then diagnosed with one of their defined pre-existing conditions. Being someone who was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis two years ago while in possession of insurance, I would no longer be able to feel secure in life because my insurance could decide at any moment that I cost too much and therefore deserve to have my rates raised on me. Not only that, my 10-month-old daughter was recently treated for asthma, so she could face the same hike. This replacement of the Affordable Care Act is a dangerous disservice to America, and it is high time representatives like Barrasso and Enzi actually take the time to read and truly understand what this bill entails. It’s high time they actually consider the negative ramifications it could have against their constituents rather than following the herd and voting the way they are “expected” to.
