Mickey Mullen draws on an image of the bad old days of the Jim Crow south to try to convince us that Christians and Muslims today are respectively as blacks and whites were then. The comparison is laughable.

Evidently he hasn’t studied the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof:” In the eyes of the government, all religious beliefs are equal and not one is more equal than another.

Christians in this country have not lost and are not losing the freedom to practice their religion to anyone or any other religion. What they claim as a loss of religious freedom is only a demand that they follow the laws of the land just like the rest of us regardless of what their book of ancient fairy tales tells them.

When they are foiled in an attempt to use the power of the government to force their beliefs on everyone else, they claim discrimination. What they decry as a war on Christianity by atheists and secularists and humanists is only a weakening of Christianity’s influence on our society.

People are coming to their senses and ditching religion because it is a failed belief system. It has no use in the 21st century. At some point in the future, we will look on religion as we look on racism today: while it is still around, we know it for what it is.
