Casper College Bball

Casper College's Paula Orenes Sanchez looks to pass the ball to a teammate during the T-Birds' game against Miles Community College on Feb. 7 at Swede Erickson Thunderbird Gym.

The Casper College basketball teams begin the final week of the regular season Wednesday when they host Sheridan College at Swede Erickson Thunderbird Gym.

The T-Birds' 15th-ranked women's team (26-2, 12-0 Region IX North) clinched the sub-region title with a 63-56 victory, its 16th in a row, over Northwest College on Saturday. So in addition to home games against Sheridan College and Gillette College on Saturday, the T-Birds earned the right to host the Region IX tournament next month.

The men's team, meanwhile, has some work to do if it wants to host a first-round tournament game.

The T-Birds (19-9, 7-5) are currently fourth in the sub-region, with a half-game lead over Western Wyoming Community College. Making things more difficult for the T-Birds is that they have to face No. 16 Sheridan College (24-3, 10-2) and No. 13 Gillette College (25-3, 9-3) to close the season.
