Casper College sophomore point guard Isaac Bonton shared Region IX Player of the Year honors with Western Nebraska Community College point guard Jervay Green, it was announced Tuesday.

The 6-foot-3 Bonton averaged 21.4 points, 5.6 assists and 5.5 rebounds per game in leading the Thunderbirds (32-3) to the NJCAA Division I Championships for the first time in 23 years.

Bonton was at his best late in the season. He averaged 26.0 points per game in the Region IX tournament, scoring 41 points in a semifinal victory over Western Nebraska and 32-points in the T-Birds’ victory over Sheridan College in the championship game. Bonton was one of the bright spots in Casper College’s 90-83 loss to Cleveland State Community College in the first round of the NJCAA Championships. In that game, Bonton scored a game-high 30 points to go along with seven assists and seven rebounds.

Earlier this month, Bonton and fellow Casper College sophomore Wilfried Likayi were named the Region IX North Co-Players of the Year. Those two, along with sophomore Amin Adamu were also named to the Region IX all-tournament team.

Green, who has signed with Nebraska, averaged 23.6 points, 5.3 assists and 5.7 rebounds for the Cougars.
