The postseason honors are starting to build for the Casper College men’s basketball team, which won the Region IX championship to punch its ticket to next week’s National Junior College Athletics Association Division I Championship.

Thunderbird sophomores Isaac Bonton and Wilfried Likayi were recognized as Region IX North Co-Players of the Year on Tuesday.

Bonton, the T-Birds’ 6-foot-3 point guard, leads the team in scoring at 21.1 points per game and tops the sub-region with 5.6 assists per game. The 6-10 Likayi averages 17.1 points and a team-best 7.9 rebounds per game.

Bonton and Likayi, along with 6-4 sophomore guard Amin Adamu were also named to the Region IX all-tournament team on Tuesday. The T-Birds (32-2) defeated Gillette College (105-70) in the first round, Trinidad State Junior College (84-61) in the quarterfinals, Western Nebraska Community College (104-97) in the semifinals and Sheridan College (87-74) in the finals to win the Region IX championship on Saturday in Sheridan.

Bonton averaged 26.0 points per game during the T-Birds’ run, including a 41-point game in the semifinals and a 32-point, nine-assist effort in the championship game.

Likayi had three double-doubles in the four games, averaging 16.0 points and 8.8 rebounds per game. Aminu averaged 14.5 points per game.
