University of Wyoming distance runner Harry Ewing represented his home country of New Zealand at the World University Games in Naples, Italy on Tuesday and finished the steeplechase in 9 minutes, 12.88 seconds. That time was good enough for 16th in the race and just the top 15 advance to the finals.

Ewing finished ninth in his heat but finished just seconds behind Ricardo Ferreira of Portugal (9:08.93) for the final spot in the finals. Ryohei Sakaguchi of Japan posted the best time of the event with a 8:49.50.

The Cowboy comes off his redshirt sophomore season where he reached the NCAA West Prelims for the second consecutive year. This past season he set a new program record in the steeplechase with a 8:42.72.
