University of Wyoming men’s cross country and men’s distance running coach Scott Dahlberg received a promotion on Thursday with current Wyoming track and field head coach Bryan Berryhill announcing that Dahlberg will takeover as head coach of both Wyoming cross country teams.

“Coach Dahlberg has been highly successful as an assistant coach and I’m excited to watch him continue to build on this success as a head coach,” Berryhill said in a statement.

Just this past season the Cowboys cross country team qualified for the NCAA National Championship meet for the first time since 1986. That same team also received rankings in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association national poll, another program first. The Cowboys were ranked as high as No. 12 nationally and finished 12th at the NCAA Championships.

Dahlberg, who previously spent 5 years on the coaching staff at Colorado State, coached the Cowboys’ distance runners in the track season to 19 different all-time top-10 marks in program history.
