Tyler Severin, coming off his freshman season with the Wyoming Cowboys men’s golf team, shot a 3-under 68 in Tuesday’s first round of the regional 2019 U.S. Amateur Qualifier at Jacoby Golf Course in Laramie. That was enough to lead the field of 21 golfers at the local qualifying event that Jacoby Golf Course is hosting for just the second time in a second straight year.

Sheridan native Kirby Coe-Kirkham, who also recently completed his freshman season with the Cowboys, finished even with Kelly Walsh graduate Taj Sutherland to tie for fifth in the first round.

Pinedale graduate and golfer for the University of Utah, Jordan Costello, finished one stroke off of Severin to tie for second after the initial 18 holes.

The second round, which also teed off on Tuesday, was not completed by Star-Tribune press deadlines.
