Future University of Wyoming golfer Bryce Waters, still golfing in his native Texas, tied for the lead at the U.S. Amateur Qualifier in Odessa, Texas, late Wednesday to automatically earn a spot in the U.S. Amateur Championship next month.

Waters, a Midland, Texas, native who signed his letter of intent to join the Cowboys in November 2018, finished with a 6-under 138 over the two-round qualifying meet. He will join Wyoming in the fall as a junior after playing his first two years of eligibility at Odessa College. Waters is a former Texas state champion golfer.

Odessa College finished fourth as a team and Waters placed 14th individually at the NJCAA National Championship last season.

Waters advanced a day after Pinedale native Jordan Costello won the U.S. Amateur Qualifier at Jacoby Golf Course in Laramie. They are two of 96 golfers qualifying this month for the 119th U.S. Amateur Championship in Pinehurst, N.C. next month.
