LARAMIE — Wyoming men’s basketball player A.J. Banks was arrested early Sunday morning on suspicion of DUI and speeding, the Albany County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to the Star-Tribune.

Banks, a junior from Las Vegas, transferred to Wyoming this summer from Pratt (Kansas) Community College.

The 20-year-old Banks, whose full name is Alahjan Jamal, was arrested at about 2 a.m. Sunday, according to police Sgt. Josh DeBree. Banks faces municipal court charges for driving under the influence as a youthful offender, and he was also charged with speeding.

The Laramie Police Department made the arrest. Banks was released on bond on Tuesday, according to DeBree.

UW athletics said it is aware of Banks’ arrest and currently does not have any other comment.
