Wyoming junior guard Justin James and senior forward Hayden Dalton were voted first-team all-conference by Mountain West media, it was announced Sunday. Wyoming senior forward Alan Herndon was voted the conference’s defensive player of the year and was named honorable mention all-conference. Senior guard Lou Adams was named sixth man of the year.

James’ 21.8 points per game in conference play were second. He led all scorers in the conference with 19.8 points per game overall, though only conference statistics were considered for the awards. Dalton was fourth in the conference with 18.4 points per Mountain West game and sixth with 8.1 rebounds per conference game.

Herndon scored 10.2 points per conference game and led the conference with 2.3 blocks per Mountain West game. His 6.4 rebounds per game in conference play ranked 13th. Adams averaged 10.4 points per game in conference play — third on the team, despite starting just one conference game.

Chandler Hutchison was voted the conference’s player of the year. He, Nevada’s Caleb Martin and Jordan Caroline, James and Dalton comprised the all-conference first team. Fresno State’s Design Taylor, UNLV’s Brandon McCoy, Nevada’s Cody Martin, Utah State’s Sam Merrill and UNLV’s Shakur Justin were voted second-team all-conference. Utah State’s Koby McEwen, San Diego State’s Jalen McDaniels, New Mexico’s Anthony Mathis, Nevada’s Kendall Stephens and San Jose State’s Ryan Welage were voted third-team all-conference.

New Mexico’s Antino Jackson, Colorado State’s Nico Carvacho, Air Force’s Trevor Lyons, San Diego State’s Malik Pope, UNLV’s Jordan Johnson, Fresno State’s Bryson Williams, and Boise State’s Chris Sengfelder, and Lexus Williams were also named honorable mention all-conference.

Nevada’s Eric Musselman beat out New Mexico’s Paul Weir for coach of the year honors. Caleb Martin was voted newcomer of the year, and McCoy was named freshman of the year.

Nine of 11 Mountain West markets submitted ballots, with joint ballots being submitted in markets with more than one outlet covering a team closely. Voters ranked their top 15 players to determine the all-conference honors.
