Wyoming junior Dan Starzinksi was tied for the lead at the 2019 Saguaro Amateur in Maricopa, Arizona, after shooting an opening-round 68 late Wednesday. Starzinski, a Phoenix native, is tied with Jacob Pedersen, a high school senior from Shorewood, Minnesota.

The other seven members of the Cowboy golf team are also competing at the event in Arizona. Tyler Severin tied for fifth, Kirby Coe-Kirkham (Sheridan) tied for 24th, John Murdock (Laramie) tied for 33rd, Jared Edeen (Cheyenne) tied for 49th, Jimmy Dales tied for 60th, Carl Underwood tied for 92nd and Liam Clancy tied for 104th after the first round.

Second-round action at the par-72 Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club was scheduled for Thursday before the final-round on Friday.
