University of Wyoming junior Clara Tapia was named Academic All-District VII Women's Basketball First Team on Thursday. That honor qualifies her for the Academic All-America Team voting, which is finalized on March 7. Tapia is the first Cowgirl to earn the honor since Kayla Woodward in 2015.

The Barcelona, Spain, native has a 4.00 GPA in molecular biology and chemistry and was also named Academic All-Mountain West and Scholar-Athlete last season.

Tapia averages 4.7 points and 4.3 assits per game.

Sophomore Taylor Rusk was also honored as a Second Team selection. She averages 9.1 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game. Rusk was a member of the All-Freshman Team last season.
