The Wyoming women's basketball team turned up the defense in its season opener against Chadron State College on Wednesday in Laramie.

The Cowgirls (1-0) limited the Eagles (0-1) to 14-of-51 shooting, including 0-for-10 from behind the arc in rolling to an 81-33 victory.

Wyoming led 24-8 after the first quarter and 39-10 at the half.

Freshman Tereza Vitulova led a balanced UW attack with 14 points. Freshman Alba Sanchez Ramos (12) and seniors Bailee Cotton (11) and Marta Gomez (11) also scored in double figures for the Cowgirls. Cotton added eight rebounds while junior Rachelle Tucker finished with eight points and seven boards.

Wyoming plays at Saint Mary's on Friday.
