The University of Wyoming volleyball team gets its 2019 season started Saturday when the Cowgirls will hold two practices.

Wyoming returns nine players to a team that went 20-11 last year and advanced to the National Invitation Volleyball Championship for the second consecutive year.

"I know I'm excited, and the rest of the staff is, too," UW head coach Chad Callihan said in a release. "We've really enjoyed working with this group through the spring and we're excited to get the newcomers in here."

The Cowgirls welcome back two all-Mountain West performers in senior outside hitter Tara Traphagan and junior middle blocker Jackie McBride. The team returns two other starters in senior libero Madi Fields and senior outside hitter Halie McArdle.

Wyoming holds its Brown and Gold Scrimmage on Aug. 23 followed by an exhibition match Aug. 24 against Nebraska-Kearney in Cheyenne. The Cowgirls open the regular season Aug. 30 at Colorado.
