The University of Wyoming volleyball team earned its first win of the season Monday with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-14) sweep of Long Island University at the UniWyo Sports Complex in Laramie.

KC McMahon led the Cowgirls (1-2) with 14 kills while Jackie McBride added nine. Mackenzie Coates had a match-high 33 assists and libero Madi Fields contributed 13 digs.

Wyoming had lost to Colorado and UC Santa Barbara to open the season.

“Coming off the weekend, we were struggling to create offensive production, and things really opened up this evening,” UW head coach Chad Callihan said in a release. “We kind of made a few lineup changes, and it looked like things were a little simpler on the floor, and it started to click. We passed really well, which allowed us to get our offense going.”

The Cowgirls remain home this weekend when they host Buffalo, Charleston and Northern Colorado in the UniWyo Invite.
