4A Boys State Basketball - Friday

Gillette’s Trey Hladky, right, and Rock Springs’ Trevor Hautala chase down a loose ball during their semifinal game last year in the Wyoming State High School Class 4A Boys Basketball Championship at the Casper Events Center.

Gillette senior guard Trey Hladky got his final state basketball tournament off to a good start Thursday when he was named the Wyoming Gatorade Boys Basketball Player of the Year.

The 5-foot-9 Hladky enters Thursday's Class 4A quarterfinal game against Natrona County averaging 27.4 points, 4.7 assists and 2.4 steals per game.

Hladky is the state's first back-to-back winner of the award since current University of Wyoming point guard Cody Kelley did it back in 2013-14, also for Gillette.

Hladky has signed to play college basketball at Chadron State College.
