Natrona vs Thunder Basin

Natrona County boys head basketball coach Shawn Gillum talks with his team during its game against Thunder Basin last season at Natrona County High School.

Natrona County boys head basketball coach Shawn Gillum has resigned, he confirmed to the Star-Tribune on Thursday. Gillum, who tendered his resignation on June 7, will continue to teach freshmen physical education at Natrona County.

Gillum coached the Mustangs for 10 seasons, compiling a 114-137 record and leading Natrona County to Class 4A state championships in 2010 and 2015.

In addition to the state titles, the Mustangs also finished third at state in 2011 and won the consolation championship in 2014. They qualified for the state tournament in seven of 10 seasons under Gillum.

Natrona County went 7-15 this past season -- the team's fourth consecutive losing season -- and failed to qualify for the state tournament.

See Saturday's Star-Tribune for more on Gillum's resignation.
