Star Valley senior Asefa Wetzel signed Wednesday to run cross-country and distance at the University of Wyoming.

Wetzel currently has the No. 8 mark in the nation for high school boys in the indoor 1600-meter run with a time of 4 minutes, 18.37 seconds. Wetzel, along with many other of the state's top track and field competitors, will be competing in the Simplot Games in Pocatello, Idaho, beginning Thursday.

An injury forced Wetzel to miss the 2018 outdoor season, but in 2017 he won both the 1600 and 3200 at the Class 3A state meet. He also won the 3A cross-country title his junior season and finished in the top six at the state meet every year.
