Guernsey Vikings

HEAD COACH: Curtis Cook (4th year, 16-12)

KEY RETURNERS: RB/LB Jeremy Hartt (sr.); OL/DB Preston Elmore (sr.)

OUTLOOK: If the Vikings can gain quick experience then they should be in position to play deep into the season.

Hanna Miners

LAST YEAR: 7-1; lost to Burlington 61-36 in quarterfinals.

HEAD COACH: Zack Scott (7th year, 25-25)

STATE TITLES/LAST: 3/1989

KEY RETURNERS: RB/LB Conor McGraw (5-10, 150, sr.); RB/LB Shane McGraw (5-10, 155, sr.); WR/DL Brendan Reeves (6-1, 175, sr.)

OUTLOOK: This could be the Miners’ magical year with a talented senior class and five starters back from last year’s conference championship team.

Hulett Red Devils

LAST YEAR: 3-6; lost to Farson 90-22 in quarterfinals.

HEAD COACH: Boz Backen (5th year, 15-22)

STATE TITLES/LAST: 5/1996

KEY RETURNERS: RB/DL Jhett Letellier (sr.); WR/DB Taylor Dykes (sr.)

OUTLOOK: Consistency is the key this season for the Red Devils as their five returners play with more experience.

Kaycee Buckaroos

LAST YEAR: 5-4; lost to Snake River 71-18 in quarterfinals.

HEAD COACH: Dave Largent (1st year)

STATE TITLES/LAST: 3/2017

KEY RETURNERS: none provided.

OUTLOOK: Just making the playoffs won’t be good enough for this once prolific program now seeing yet another new coach.

Lingle-Fort Laramie Doggers

LAST YEAR: 2-5; did not qualify for playoffs.

HEAD COACH: Matt Cornelius (4th year, 9-15)

STATE TITLES/LAST: 1/1990

KEY RETURNERS: RB/DB Alex Pugsley (5-11, 160, sr.); QB/LB Cooper Hill (5-6, 145, jr.).

OUTLOOK: Improvement is key for the Doggers as they eye playoff seeding in the East this season.

Midwest Oilers

LAST YEAR: 1-6; did not qualify for playoffs.

HEAD COACH: Dean Wells (1st year)

STATE TITLES/LAST: 2/1991

KEY RETURNERS: Zack Kohtala (sr); Austin Sansoucie (sr); Isaiah Williams (sr); Riley Ankeney (jr); Justin Robles (jr).

OUTLOOK: The Oilers will be young once again so it’ll be interesting what Wells’ system will look like.

NSI Academy Wolves

LAST YEAR: 3-4; did not qualify for playoffs.

HEAD COACH: Chad Lobdell (1st year)

STATE TITLES/LAST: None

KEY RETURNERS: none provided.

OUTLOOK: The Wolves believe their power running game could make them a playoff team this season.

West Conference

Burlington Huskies

LAST YEAR: 6-5; defeated Hanna 61-36 in quarterfinals, defeated Meeteetse 57-18 in semifinals, lost to Farson 73-38 in championship.

OUTLOOK: A lot of new faces on this year’s team will have to mature quickly if the Huskies hope to return to Laramie.

Dubois Rams

KEY RETURNERS: WR/DB Thomas Summers (5-9, 120, jr.); RB/DL Max Claar (6-1, 210, soph.)

OUTLOOK: The Rams return with no seniors but they should be better off than last year’s disastrous campaign.

Farson Pronghorns

LAST YEAR: 11-0; defeated Hulett 90-22 in quarterfinals, defeated Snake River 62-19 in semifinals, defeated Burlington 73-38 in championship.

HEAD COACH: Marvin Applequist (8th year, 46-22)

STATE TITLES/LAST: 1/2018

KEY RETURNERS: none provided.

OUTLOOK: Role players on last year’s team step into starting roles as the Pronghorns look forward from their first title.

Meeteetse Longhorns

LAST YEAR: 7-3; defeated Guernsey 47-30 in quarterfinals, lost to Burlington 57-18 in semifinals.

HEAD COACH: Zeb Hagen (1st year)

STATE TITLES/LAST: 2/2013

KEY RETURNERS: RB/LB Asa Eldredge (6-1, 220, sr.); TE/DE Courtney Braten (5-11, 175, sr).

OUTLOOK: The Longhorns’ hope to improve upon their streak of playoff appearances by making a run in the West.

Riverside Rebels

LAST YEAR: 3-5; ineligible for playoffs.

HEAD COACH: Sam Buck (6th year, 22-30)

STATE TITLES/LAST: 1/2007

KEY RETURNERS: none provided.

OUTLOOK: A more consistent Rebels team could find its way into the top half of a tough West Conference.

Snake River Rattlers

LAST YEAR: 7-3; defeated Kaycee 71-18 in quarterfinals, lost to Farson 62-19 in semifinals.

HEAD COACH: Jack Cobb (3rd year, 15-5)

OUTLOOK: Experience and talent have the Rattlers believing they could be one of the last teams playing this season.

St. Stephens Eagles

LAST YEAR: 1-6; did not qualify for playoffs.

HEAD COACH: Billy Brost (2nd year, 2-6)

STATE TITLES/LAST: 1/1962

KEY RETURNERS: RB/LB Little-Sun Felter (5-10, 185, sr); WR/QB/K Trenton Friday (6-1, 170, sr); C/DL Salem Ynostrosa (6-0, 355, sr); QB/RB/LB Jude Jenkins (6-1, 170, soph); RB/S Isaiah Felter (5-8, 145, jr).

OUTLOOK: With more experience and more speed in the backfield with the addition of two-time Class 1A 100-meter state champ Kaden Dower (Western Heritage), this could be a promising season for the Eagles.

Ten Sleep Pioneers

OUTLOOK: Athletic director Sarah Novak announced last week that Ten Sleep has canceled its 2019 football season.
