For just the third time since 2001, Cheyenne Post 6 won't win the Wyoming American Legion Baseball Class AA State Tournament, which starts Friday in Gillette.

Post 6, which won the CABA Wood Bat World Series Northwest Qualifier last week, opted to play in the Connie Mack World Series in Farmington, New Mexico, this weekend instead of defending its state title.

With Post 6 out of the picture, the host Gillette Roughriders (60-18) and the Casper Oilers (40-16-1) enter as the teams to beat. Gillette is the top seed out of the East while Casper won the West's top seed.

Cody, which finished 43-12 in Class A, agreed to move up and take Cheyenne's spot in the AA state tournament. The Cubs were given the East No. 4 seed and will face Casper in the first round.

Other first-round games, all Friday, pit East No. 2 Sheridan against West No. 3 Evanston, West No. 2 Jackson against East No. 3 Laramie and Gillette facing West No. 4 Rock Springs.
