4W Riverton Wolverines

Last year: Did not qualify for state.

State championships/most recent: 0

Outlook: The Wolverines are back in the state tournament without a win in the past three weeks, so they have nothing to lose.

2W Powell Panthers

Coach: David Gilliatt

Record: 11-4-1

Record vs other teams at state: 6-4-1

State appearances: 10

Last year: 0-2 at state.

State championships/most recent: 0

Outlook: Undefeated against opponents other than Worland in over a month, the Panthers have proven themselves coming into this tournament.

3E Rawlins Outlaws

Coach: Erly Cornejo

Record: 8-4-3

Record vs other teams at state: 4-2-2

State appearances: 2

Last year: 3rd at state.

State championships/most recent: 0

Outlook: With joys of last year’s wins at state still in their mind, the Outlaws should be eager to improve on that finish this season.

2E Buffalo Bison

Coach: Dick Edgcomb

Record: 9-6-1

Record vs other teams at state: 4-5-1

State appearances: 18

Last year: Consolation champs.

State championships/most recent: 3/2013

Outlook: Don’t be fooled by the record, with tough losses to Worland and Torrington as well as a win over 4A Gillette, the Bison are a tough out.

3W Cody Broncs

Coach: Kory Jansma

Record: 8-8-0

Record vs other teams at state: 5-5-0

State appearances: 16

Last year: 0-2 at state

State championships/most recent: 4/2017

Outlook: The Broncs come in looking to turn around their current form, which includes just one win in their last five matches.

1W Worland Warriors

Coach: Ron Overcast

Record: 15-0-0

Record vs other teams at state: 9-0-0

State appearances: 13

Last year: State champs.

State championships/most recent: 1/2018

Outlook: The undefeated returning state champions have conquered not only all 3A competition, but also the few 4A teams they’ve played.

4E Douglas Bearcats

Coach: Clay Ewing

Record: 3-11-1

Record vs other teams at state: 0-8-1

State appearances: 3

Last year: Did not qualify for state.

State championships/most recent: 0

Outlook: Offense has been sparse for the Bearcats lately, but they do come in with confidence after taking Torrington to overtime in the regular-season finale.

GIRLS

1E Buffalo Bison

Coach: Mike Sauers

Record: 12-1-2

Record vs other teams at state: 8-1-0

State appearances: 19

Last year: Consolation champs.

State championships/most recent: 2/2014

Outlook: The Bison come into this tournament on a roll and with their only loss — 1-0 to Cody — nearly two months in the rear-view mirror.

4W Lander Tigers

Coach: Abilio Monteiro

Record: 8-8-0

Record vs other teams at state: 2-7-0

State appearances: 16

Last year: 3rd at state.

State championships/most recent: 0

Outlook: Consistency is the key for the Tigers, who enter this year’s tournament having won three of their last five matches.

2W Riverton Wolverines

Coach: Tanya Santee

Record: 9-6-0

Record vs other teams at state: 4-5-0

State appearances: 14

Last year: 0-2 at state.

State championships/most recent: 0

Outlook: The Wolverines, with a duo of scorers, are happy to face someone other than Cody in the first round for the first time in three years.

3E Rawlins Outlaws

Coach: Brooke Mendez

Record: 6-6-2

Record vs other teams at state: 3-6-1

State appearances: 3

Last year: 1-2 at state.

State championships/most recent: 0

Outlook: Last year’s quarterfinal win, the first in program history, has the Outlaws hungry to move further in this year’s tournament.

2E Douglas Bearcats

Coach: Skyler Hatanelas

Record: 8-4-2

Record vs other teams at state: 3-3-2

State appearances: 2

Last year: 0-2 at state.

State championships/most recent: 0

Outlook: Having made state for the first time last year, these Bearcats have only improved and are responsible for Cody’s only draw.

3W Worland Warriors

Coach: Danielle Warren

Record: 8-6-1

Record vs other teams at state: 3-5-0

State appearances: 12

Last year: State runners-up.

State championships/most recent: 0

Outlook: With just one win in the past five matches, the younthful Warriors need to make a run in order to match their recent state finishes.

1W Cody Fillies

Coach: Marian Miears

Record: 14-1-1

Record vs other teams at state: 10-0-1

State appearances: 14

Last year: State champs.

State championships/most recent: 3/2018

Outlook: The two-time defending state champions have a younger core group than in years past, but their goal hasn’t shifted from a third straight title.

4E Newcastle Dogies

Coach: Bryce Hoffman

Record: 4-9-0

Record vs other teams at state: 1-7-0

State appearances: 6

Last year: Did not qualify for state.

State championships/most recent: 0

Outlook: The Dogies’ record doesn’t look great but wins over both Rawlins and 4A Star Valley show the promise this year’s team has.
