Bear Trap Invite

Sydney Thorvaldson of Rawlins takes the lead in the varsity girls race during the Bear Trap Invitational on Aug. 24 on Casper Mountain.

Rawlins sophomore standout Sydney Thorvaldson finished third in the 2-mile run at the New Balance Nationals in New York City on Sunday morning, running a personal best 10 minutes, 1.52 seconds.

Thorvaldson finished 10 seconds behind race winner and National Runner of the Year Katelyn Tuohy, who also ran a personal record. The sophomore's opening lap was her worst time (39.71) and none of her following splits were worse than 38.89 seconds.

Having finished the indoor season, Thorvaldson fully turns her focus to the 2019 outdoor season, which began practice on March 4. Rawlins' first meet of the season will be Saturday at the annual Glen Legler Early Bird Invitational at Natrona County.
