First-round paychecks were handed out Friday at the Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo, with Tremonton, Utah, steer wrestler Baylor Roche emerging as the big winner.

Roche, a two-time National Finals Rodeo qualifier, posted a time of 6.7 seconds to win the go-round and pocket more than $6,000.

Other first-round winners were bareback bronc rider Tanner Aus, tie-down roper Scott Kormos, saddle bronc rider Rusty Wright, team ropers Paul David Tierney and Levi Tyan and bull rider Denton Fugate.

The second round concludes Saturday with the finals set for Sunday.
