College National Finals Rodeo, Monday

Former College of Southern Idaho saddle bronc rider Rusty Wright rides Up North during the 2015 College National Finals Rodeo at the Casper Events Center.

The famous Wright rodeo family out of Milford, Utah, struck the Cody Stampede on Monday night with brothers Rusty and Ryder staking the top two scores in saddle bronc riding. Rusty rode Frontier Rodeo’s Maple Leaf to an 89 just after Ryder, the reigning world champion, scored 88 on Frontier Rodeo’s Watch Kitty.

Wyoming native Chanse Darling scored an 83.5 and Spencer Wright, uncle of Rusty and Ryder, cleaned up with an 82.5. That’s how the average looks among the top four in saddle bronc.

Bull rider Jeff Askey seized control of the average with an 89.5 on MoBetta Rodeo’s Woody. Brennon Eldred and Wyoming native Clayton Savage also rode on Monday and stand second and third, respectively, in the average.

Reigning collegiate national champion Trey Yates of Casper College and Aaron Tsinigine still lead the team roping with a 4.1-second run after returning Cody Stampede champions Kaleb Driggers and Junior Nogueira won Monday’s go with a 5.2.
