The University of Wyoming men’s rodeo team dominated the timed events at the Antler Stampede in Lamar, Colorado, over the weekend to win the next-to-last Central Rocky Mountain Region rodeo of the fall season.

The Cowboys had four of the top five finishers in steer wrestling, swept the top five places in tie-down roping and had two of the top five pairings in team roping to finish with 730 points. Casper College was second with 680 points and Chadron State College was third with 415.

For UW, JC Flake won the bulldogging with a two-run time of 11.0 seconds and Wyatt Tarver took top honors in tie-down with a two-run time of 22.5. Tarver was followed by teammates Chadron Coffield (23.1), Austin Hurlburt (24.1), Caden Camp (24.4) and Jace Berger (25.6). Coffield also finished fifth in tie-down while Berger teamed with UW’s Payton Donnelly to finish third in team roping. In addition, Wyoming’s Chase Rose won the bareback bronc riding.

Casper College was led by the team roping brother tandem of Kellan Johnson and Carson Johnson, who tied for second in the long go-round with a 6.9-second run and won the short go with a 5.6 to finish atop the average with a 12.5. Thunderbird teammates Braden Pirrung and Tanner McInerney won the long go with a 6.0.

Other event winners were Chadron State’s Garrett Uptain (saddle bronc riding) and Sheridan College’s Coby Johnson (bull riding).

Eastern Wyoming College finished atop the women’s team standings behind a strong showing by Karissa Rayhill, who tied for first in goat tying and placed fourth in barrel racing.

The Lancers totaled 240 points to narrowly defeat UW, which finished with 220 points. Casper College was third with 195.

Northeastern (Colorado) Junior College had two event champions as Chase Kiker won the breakaway roping and Riata Day tied Rayhill for the goat tying win. UW’s Karson Bradley won the barrel racing.

The CRMR fall season concludes this weekend with the Shawn Dubie Memorial Rodeo in Cheyenne, hosted by Laramie County Community College.
