Gillette's Shay Hough has been in this position before. One year after finishing as the reserve champion in pole bending at the National High School Finals Rodeo, Hough entered Saturday's final go-round in the same spot.

Hough finished fourth in the second go with a time of 19.982 seconds and has a two-run time of 40.389. Brooklyn Gunter of Sulpur, Louisiana, leads the average with a 40.094.

Hough was one of nine competitors from Wyoming to qualify for the finals thanks to finishing in the Top 20 in the average.

The Torrington team roping duo of Bryan and Jared Lemmon were ninth, Saratoga's Kasen York was 10th in boys cutting, Diamondville bareback bronc rider Donny Proffit was 15th, Rock Springs saddle bronc rider Ira Dickinson was tied for 16th, Baggs' bareback bronc rider Riggen Myers was 18th, Riverton goat tyer Elsie Campbell was tied for 19th and Torrington tie-down roper Cole Lane was 20th.

Earlier in the day, York finished 19th in the reined cow horse competition.
